Research Data and the Code workshop
will cover responding to the Code, from both the institutional and the researcher perspective.
The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, announced in 2007, provides institutions and researchers with a guide to responsible research practice. The Code refers to the need for "good stewardship of public resources used to conduct research". Chapter 2 of the Code is devoted to the management of research data and primary materials, defining the responsibilities of both institutions and individual researchers.
The workshop will address issues such as:
- the division of responsibilities between institution and researcher
- provision of policy, services and infrastructure frameworks to support the research data requirements of the Code
- governance
- models for recording the existence of research projects and their data
- ANDS services of benefit to the administration of research
- data sharing
- the importance of data management
- data management issues such as copyright, access, record keeping and data retention
- ANDS services of benefit t researchers
- impediments to complying with the Code
This workshop is designed for:
- research administrators responsible for institutional policy, procedure and infrastructure provision
- researchers, including graduate students
- research project support staff who have a responsibility for data management
- professional intermediaries (librarians, archivists, records managers, IT staff) who need to be informed about the institutional role and data management and who may have responsibility within their institution for training on these topics
- data centre and institutional repository managers and staff.
