ANDS Infrastructure Project Plan Approved

In the recent Federal budget ANDS was allocated $48 million from the Education Investment Fund (EIF) to create and develop an Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) research infrastructure. Over the last few months ANDS has been consulting with major stakeholders across the sector on the final form that this project will take.

The consultation process was an initiative of the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIIDR). DIISR convened and chaired the meetings, which were held in every state and territory.

On the basis of feedback received during the consultation meetings, ANDS made significant changes to the plan including re-factoring budgets in response to the high level of demand for engagement at institutional levels.

In September 2009 the final Project Plan was submitted to DIISR and in mid-October 2009 DIISR advised that the Australian Research Data Commons Project Plan had been accepted.
