Register My Data

The ANDS Register My Data service allows you to register collections of research materials. Descriptions of registered collections are published in a number of discovery services and e-research applications including:

  • Research Data Australia
  • Global Registries Initiative (in development)

ANDS will endeavour to ensure that registered collections feature prominently in results from appropriate searches by internet search engines such as Google.

Register My Data assists researchers and research organisations to publicise their research data collections, enabling verification of research findings and re-use of valuable research materials.  Register My Data assists with the moral and legal obligations to make research data available.  It aims to contribute to a global research data commons.

This service is intended for any collection of materials relevant to research.  Staff from universities, publicly funded research organisations, government agencies, data centres, museums, galleries, libraries, etc are encouraged to use the service to register their collections.

 Typical collections include:

  • datasets from observations, investigations, instruments, surveys, etc
  • recordings
  • images
  • video
  • software
  • text

A useful collection contains not only the research materials but also contextual information to assist re-use (such as calibration, format, methodology, and so on).

ANDS only registers the description of your collection; ANDS does not store the collection itself.  You therefore retain control over access.  Any special access considerations can be included in your description.

In order to maintain the currency of the information, the Register My Data service supports a number of dynamic exchange and harvesting protocols to automate communication with managed data environments.  Manual descriptions and registration are also supported.
